The small rituals that hold me together
March 2026

I don't have a morning routine, exactly. What I have is something looser — a handful of small acts I reach for when I need to feel like myself again. A specific mug. A window opened before anything else. The same song on certain kinds of days.
These aren't productivity habits. They don't optimise anything. But they do something routines can't quite capture: they signal to me that this day, this hour, this small stretch of time, belongs to me.
I used to dismiss this kind of thing as trivial. There were bigger problems, bigger goals, bigger things to attend to. But I've come to think that the small rituals are actually load-bearing. They're not decoration around the important stuff — they are part of how we hold ourselves together when things get heavy.
Whatever yours are — the walk you take alone, the tea made a certain way, the five minutes before anyone else wakes up — I hope you're protecting them. They matter more than they look like they should.
